The Department of Chemistry operates a variety of modern mass spectrometers for the analysis of a wide range of compound molecular masses and polarities, i.e., from small molecules to (bio-)synthetic polymers.

Available methods include ESI, APCI, APPI ion sources coupled to a high-resolution Quadrupole-Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer (Q-ToF-MS) with or without High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) seperation, MALDI-TOF-MS(/MS), and fast analysis of crude reaction mixtures by ESI or APCI-MS utilizing a Thin-Layer-Chromatography (TLC) interface.

Additionally, surface analysis of small molecules can be performed using a DART-MS system.
