The Department of Chemistry operates a high-resolution double-focusing sector field mass spectrometer (Thermo Fischer DFS, room 2225.0114).
This high-end spectrometer allows the determination of the exact molecular mass (HR-MS) and fragmentation pattern of organometallic (d- and f-elements), organoelement and organic compounds up to masses of 6000 Da. Ionization methods available include EI (organic molecules), CI and FD (organometallic compounds and coordination compounds).
An FD/LIFDI/FI inlet allows measurements of reactive, air and moisture sensitive (organometallic, organoelement) samples, which are often not detectable without fragmentation using conventional MS systems.
